Welcome!

Hi!! Well... here I am - about 3 years after saying 'I reeeaaaally must start a blog' I've only gone and done it!

So, if you would allow me to introduce myself - I am Helen and I run Kindred Rose, a small sewing business, from my pretty Devon Shed.

There is a sign I have hung up outside my shed which has the words 'Galleries, Studios, Theatre' and I wanted to call my blog that because I guess that is what I will be doing here; I will show my work, I will talk of my work and I will have the occasional drama too. I snaffled the sign from a wonderful Arts Centre that I used to work at in Cheltenham. It was a magical place where I met many friends, including my husband. I used to run the galleries and studios there, and when it closed down due to lack of funding the sign was left hanging desolate and it needed a new place to reside. I think it looks pretty good on my shed wall.

Anyway, she's a beauty, my shed. Although when I first met her it wasn't the case. We were looking for a house to buy and she was in the garden of one we went to view. She was full of forgotten tools, fridges and the occasional teddy bear.

But I knew she was the perfect place to keep my ever growing supply of fabrics and for me to set up my little business. So we bought the house, up here in the beautiful Blackdown Hills of Devon.

She was rather forlorn to start with, but we emptied her out, gave her a lick of paint and a brand new carpet.

She was slowly transforming from a tired wooden storage to a calm, tranquil space I knew I could be happy beavering away in.

Over the years I have filled her with my fabrics and my cushions and my work and my smiles and my tears. She has been my sanctuary in so many ways.

Although, don't get me wrong - she's not perfect! She can be a total mess at times (just like me!)

But she's even made it into her very favouritest magazine ever. What a moment that was!

So that's my shed. And me.

    1. Hi Tracy! It is all insulated in between the outside and inside layers, so maybe that is why it doesn't? It is cold though, so maybe it's not insulated enough!! We have got a summerhouse in the garden which isn't insulated and we did it all up for the kids but that one is damp unfortunately. Good luck! xx
